Ancient Wars: Sparta offers RTS fans all their favourite gameplay with a vast variety of new features and innovative options. Cities can be upgraded and turned to fortresses, workers gather resources to ensure a safe economy. The player can collect abandoned weapons after battles or import powerful weapons from other cultures to build special units. Warriors can be equipped with weapons and shields, can be put on horses or on chariots and be given special abilities. Players can strategically equip soldiers with weapons of choice. The main emphasis is on large-scaled battles and complex tactical manoeuvres. Sparta represents 3D strategy in real time with the newly developed Ancient Wars Engine (AWE), where the player will have to use each nations powers to be superior over other competitors and build up a dominant culture and civilisation.
Following historical events, the action takes place with different campaigns for all three races. Spartans, Persians and Egyptians are fighting for influence around Asia Minor, Europe and North Africa. The mechanics run like an unoiled cog in the wheel, and you could be spending long periods managing before you see in action.Ancient Wars: Sparta is based on the history of the ancient ages and their main nations. However, Ancient Wars: Sparta isn't really a game that one would want to spend too much time on. We'll say that there are definitely worse RTS games out there - say, Stalin vs. An Army Only Strong as its Weakest Member Perhaps the troubles that faced the game caught up with development after all. The whole experience is remarkably average, and players can't help but feel more could be done here. The campaigns are bland with uninspired storytelling and poor voice acting even in the single-player. It's more like the civil service processing a claim rather than leading up to a historic battle. What you'll find is a trudge of micromanagement in gathering resources only to build up forces at a snail's pace. Though the graphics and models are excellent, the gameplay severely lacks substance. Unfortunately for Ancient Wars: Sparta, that also seemed to miss the mark. That leaves the excitement of gameplay to save the day. They also have single-player campaigns, which honestly don't provide the epic experience Ancient Wars: Sparta was aiming for. Each has its own unit type, making the game a little more immersive. Players choose between three ancient civilizations - the Egyptians, the Persians, and the Spartans. However, its unique flair makes the difference between an average offering and a good one. There's nothing wrong with tapping into this classic gameplay. You'll choose a civilization, enter a pre-rendered level, gather resources, and build your army to crush your foes. Getting stuck into Ancient Wars: Sparta and players will find that there isn't a whole lot that differs from the copy-paste RTS mechanics. Will this offering come out unscathed or be a byproduct of development hell?
